Adorn (song)

"Adorn" is a song by American singer Miguel, written and recorded as the first single from his second studio album ''Kaleidoscope Dream'' (2012). It was entirely written and produced by Miguel, who was inspired by a series of dreams he experienced prior to writing the song.
"Adorn" was released to iTunes on August 7, 2012.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Tuesday Tunes: "Adorn" – Miguel )〕 It peaked at number 17 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and number 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, becoming Miguel's most successful single to date, as well as his third number 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. It also currently holds the record for longest stay atop the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and is the only song in the chart's history to spend 20 or more weeks at number-one.〔http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/1531803/miguel-adorns-no-1-on-rbhip-hop-airplay-for-20th-week-weekly〕 The song earned three nominations for Song of the Year, Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance at the 55th Grammy Awards, winning his first in the category of Best R&B Song.〔()〕
As of July 2013, the song has sold 1,014,000 copies in the US. It also has been certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

"Adorn" features on-beat sub-bass sounds, falsetto howls, irregular vocal echoes, obscured synths, and minimal keyboard arrangements. Its lyrics comprise brazen declarations of affection,〔 including promises of adoration to a female subject, and are complemented by Miguel's vocal runs and ululation during the song's coda.〔 Writers liken "Adorn" to Marvin Gaye's 1982 ballad "Sexual Healing".〔〔〔
Miguel was inspired to write the song by his girlfriend, model and artist Nazanin Mandi, and said in an interview for ''People'' magazine: "I had been on a long trip and was anxious to see her. That's where the song began, with that emotion while I was on the plane. I don't remember how I got from 'These lips can't wait to taste your skin' to the end of the song, but when I listened to it, I thought, 'This is special.'"
